Dear Sundial List Members!
A Happy New Year also from my side to all of you! 2006 is the year in
which this mailing list will become ten years old. On the 15th of
February in 1996 I had the sudden idea that a mailing list for sundial
related topics could be a good idea. I am glad that this mailing list
survived for such a long time in this rapidly changing era for media and
that so many people from all over the world joined this list and
contributed many, many valuable e-mails!
It is time now to change the mailing list software, which enables this
service kindly provided by the University of Cologne. The software
currently running this list is Majordomo. Administering a mailing list
via Majordomo is a tedious task. E.g. when people change their e-mail
address sometimes they forget to unsubscribe from this list causing a
lot of e-mail traffic when the e-mail account is no longer existing.
Also, we could allow more easily for changes to more conveniences.
Therefore I want to suggest to follow a recommendation of the University
to move from Majordomo to Mailman.
There should be no constraints during and after the change. The address
to which members send their contributions will remain the same. Just
subscription matters will have to be addressed to another e-mail address
or to a web form.
If you have objections against this change, please drop me a line to my
personal e-mail address.
Best regards -
