Fellow Shadow Watchers,
I recently had a request to make a new leaf spring
for a Pilkington & Gibbs heliochronometer which involved the accurate
bending of brass strip to fit around two circular pegs set 49mm apart.
As this was to fit an instrument several hundred miles away it could not
be made by 'bend-and- try' methods so an accurate bending jig simulating
the two posts was required. As usual with such things the making of the
bending/rolling jig took most of a day whereas the spring was shaped in
less than a minute. After shaping the spring has to be 'work-hardened'
by gentle 'planishing' over a shaped stake.

As this may be of use to others with the same problem I have five Jpegs
of the device and its operation on request as usual.
