I gave thought to something like this around 1998, when working on my reflective Reniassance sundial.  I played around with bunch of mirrors, and convinced myself this idea would not work because the convex component of the mirror would diverge rather than focus light, and that is as far as I got.  I wish I could offer more optimism.
