Hello All:
After a major delay, my Cupola Sundial is finally
finished. It now has all four sundials- one on each face. Here are

Back in December the old man here in Tucson who was
making the porcelain faces died of cancer at 90 years of age. He had only
finished one sundial. So I had to search for another company that makes
porcelain on steel using the photographic technique. I finally found an
excellent, and very professional company called KVO Industries (www.kvoindustries.com) that does this
sort of thing.
Porcelain (baked on steel) sundials are a
wonderful media for sundials since they are durable and can be done in full
color. They might be a great option for those of you who know how to
design sundials but who don't make them. You simply send your design to
the porcelain company and then will make your dial face for you. Then you
attach it to a bezel (frame) and attach the gnomon. If interested, talk to
Steve Vandyk at KVO Industries and he will help you with your questions and
projects.
Another apparently good porcelain company is
Winsorfireform (www.fireform.com), but I
don't have experience working with them.
