Fellow Shadow Watchers,
On UK satellite TV/ Discovery Channel there is
currently a series called 'How It's Made' with each 30 minute programme
covering four artefacts from e.g. chocolate marshmallow biscuits to
trombones. How do they achieve those optically-perfect 'U' shaped bent
tubes in thin sheet brass with no wrinkles? I know now!!
One recent programme covered applying gold leaf to raised and incised
lettering for signs and this was 'pure gold' for sundial makers who may
be considering this process.
The series seems to be repeated regularly so keep an eye out for "3D
Signs" which is centred around letter carving by computer.
I have it recorded on DVD ;-)
