I' m not sure I'm on the right mailing list as this seems to be
discussions of sundials of today?
My 3gg George BOULBY b 1773 Ackworth, d 1821.
to Ackworth was listed in Baines Directory for Leeds as "Geo Boulby,
sundial manufacturer, Top of St. Peter's Square.
We found a sundial on St Richards, Aberford 1806 and Wragby Church 1812.
His greatest feat was one that now sits at Walton Hall in Wakefield a
description follows:
George carved a sundial that contained a regular geometrical solid
with 20 faces. Each face is an equilateral triangle marked with the
name of the city and the hours of the day. Because of the shape of
the stone, each of the twenty sun-dials needed different time
markings. The ten pairs of faces show the time at cities around the
world in time zones 36 degrees of longitude apart. When the stone
was set on its pedestal and aligned with a compass it remained only
to fit the 20 bronze gnomons which cast the shadows to enable the
sundials to function. Carved deeply on one of the faces is "G.
Boulby Fect. 1813" The whole work stands about seven feet high. Can
be seen here

shows Walton Park and Aberford Sundials
He also carved his mothers gravestone at St Cuthbert, Ackworth churchyard.
So I am most interested in finding others in Yorkshire of George
Bouby's sundials which he carved his name and date. I tried a Google
search but came up no others.
