Hello Gianni, Robert and all,   Of course it is a sundial, a very clever one. It does not show regular hours but the original "stomach time". The design is similar to Mass dials showing prayer times, the next evolution in time keeping. These Mass dials on churches also used a horizontal gnomon perpendicular to the plane and showed an irregular local time. All these sundials are in tune with the needs of the local "culture" of the time. The MacDonald's billboard will pass in a few months. How will future historians judge the impact of the MacDonald's culture? I think however that it is  not a sundial.  - The foot of the style is on the vertical of the 12 hour  line and this happens only if the plane  faces south.
