Hi Everyone:
There is a wonderful book about the 1735 French exhibition to South
America to measure a degree on longitude at the equator - which
helped to prove Newton's contention that the earth is an oblate
spheroid and helped to settle a controversy about the shape of the
earth. And the monument to the exhibition in Ecuador.
