My daughter is taking a business-related course at College, and as her 'essay subject' she would like to research niche markets, which have also "Franchised" their areas of business.
To make it a bit more interesting, I had suggested that she included a section on "Sundials" - but (apart from just ONE based in Scotland), she cannot find other Sundial businesses which are successfully 'marketing' themselves by this method. She only found them by typing the words Sundial Franchise into "Google", but (looking at the dozens of photographs on their website) they seem to get customers from all round the world. Within the United Kingdom alone, there are quite a number of profitable "Sundial" businesses who have existed for many years (I presume that these are successful, or they would soon disappear!) - but none of them seem to have Franchised it. I imagine that there are just as many successful businesses in (say) the United States, but again none as a Franchise. According to my daughter, her College lecturers said that Franchising could be an ideal way to expand a business - so can anyone offer an explanation as to why (apart from just one in Scotland), nobody else offers a Sundial Franchise? It appears the Scottish business has been trading for about twenty years, and I was amazed to find that their prices are guaranteed fixed for ever. How could a business do that, as surely 'inflation' will completely destroy all the profits? Do any members of this 'Mailing List' know of more "Sundial" businesses (anywhere in the world), which have decided to Franchise themselves - either currently, or in the past? For my daughter's essay, reasons for 'failure' of previous Sundial Franchises would be just as valid as other comments.
