Hi Tony, Thanks for the great link. It took me back over 50 years to my first meccano set, kit 1A as it was cheaper than kit 1. My parents did not realize that kit 1A only gave you the pieces to go from 1 to 2 and contained no basic pieces. I guess this difference kit would have been a good start for a difference engine.
Is the builder, Tim Robinson, related to Heath? Have you read Doron Swade's book, "The Difference Engine on Charles Babbage" on the quest to build the first computer, and the modern reconstruction at the Science Museum in London? ?235,000 buys a lot of meccano pieces.
