Hi Andrew,
Some years ago I made a dial to replace a stolen
memorial item in a local middle school and of course the head teacher
asked if I would talk to the children about it and how it worked etc.
"All about Sundials in 30 minutes!" Hmmmm!!!
As a result I put together a PowerPoint presentation with lots of
coloured graphics and animations etc. It then occurred to me that an
enlarged version could be useful to others in similar situations and so,
after hundreds of hours of illustration and patient reviews and
suggestions from dialling colleagues in the UK and the USA "Using and
Understanding Sundials" ISBN 0-9550828-0-3 - a PowerPoint program on a
CD ROM intended for use in schools etc. - came about. It is quite easy
to select appropriate pages from the full version to compile a shorter
presentation to suit your own needs.
There is a separate presentation for beginners in dialling who are
trying to understand some of the more difficult concepts viz all the
things that puzzled me at first! ;-) You can see a working sample of the
more complex content intended for beginners in dialling on the first
page of my website at:
