Dear colleagues
For about two years a friend of mine and I have been working in writing and
designing a book devoted to sundials of Brittany, the most western part of
France : "Cadrans solaires de Bretagne".
For now, the content is mostly defined. The book will introduce
sundials as a rich and integral part of the heritage of our region. It will
describe about 800 dials. We want it to be very accessible to everyone, the
specialist as the layman. It will contain about 200 pages with some 300
pictures.
Here this subject is new : such a project has never been realized in our
region.
The general design and architecture of the book remain to be elaborated. We
are quite conscious that only an publisher can do it. But you guess a
publisher does not get involved in such a project without as much assurance
as possible, all the more because the subject is rare and quite new for him.
The principal aspect of this assurance is the potential print run.
These words, inspired by our first contacts with some publishers, lead us to
kindly appeal to you, as we do not doubt that many of you would be quite
interested in such a book. So, apart your moral support which we surely take
for granted, we ask you, in return, to express your interest for this book
and a purchase intention.
Could you, through a mail for instance, let us know the potential number of
copies that you and/or your friends, would be ready to order. So we will be
able to transmit these figures to the publishers.
If it works as we wish, and if our project is successful, a subscripition
with a preferential price will be proposed to you. We think that the public
price will be around 35 Euros , i.e. $ 45.
Thank you in advance for your answers and, meanwhile, receive our very best
wishes for 2009.
