Hi guys

A reader of the Stained Glass Sundial website just wrote me to say that she
found wonderful photos of the original "Skull Dial" on The British Museum
Website. This is a good find.

Until now, I think that the only photograph we have seen of this dial is a
blurry, out of focus photo of a 20th century reproduction of the original
dial.

But the photos on the Museum's website show both the front and backsides of
the original 18th century dial that still has its gnomon! I did not know
that the original still existed.

The museum's website makes it easy to use their photos for free if you
simply register your name online and if it is for non-commercial use. Even
though the museum's online photos are quite good, they will email to you
even higher resolution photos for free.

I searched the entire sundial collection at the museum, but I only found
this one made of stained glass. Oddly, at their webpage showing the
thumbnail photos of the skull dial, the left thumbnail photo is NOT the
skull dial, but is "The Tredegar Welsh Dial" (dial 62 on the SGS website).
This is an error on their website I think.

Letter from reader:

Hi

I had fun going through your site.

Learned quite a bit.

I am a big glass fan and the art of these dials is wonderful.

I liked the Skull Dial very much and got some info along with a better photo
from the British Museum.

Thought you would enjoy.

Thanks

Will Warren
