“Paste Special” is an underappreciated feature in many programs. It is quite
useful in Excel for pasting the values as opposed to the formulae in cells. I
recently found “paste special” to be just the tool in needed to complete the
design of a very complex sundial, a combination of three sundials with
different gnomons showing five different time systems. The dial has hundreds of
lines and thousands of points. Fer de Vries Z 2000 program could generate most
of the lines for each of the designs that were trimmed and completed in
DeltaCAD. But how do I put them all together as the origin point, the base of
the vertical gnomon, was different for each of the designs. In the past, I had
merged dxf files but that didn’t work this time.

Then I found that “paste special” under the edit tab was just the tool to use
as it offered pasting the actual DeltaCAD file information in a new position on
the master diagram. It allows you to specify the coordinates of the center of
the pasted information exactly where you want it. I found drawing a box through
the extreme points of the selected information and location the center from the
intersecting diagonals gave me the center that I needed to use. I can see many
uses for this “paste special” tool. For example, adding an EQT graph would be
easy with this tool.

The design remains a work in progress and the file is too big to attach here
but if anyone would really like to look over my shoulder, I can sent the
DeltaCAD file, the dxf or the pdf versions.

Again this confirms that DeltaCAD is a great program for sundial designers.
