Larry;
Seven years ago I made some pourable color samples which
have been out in direct sunlight and weather since.
I used automotive fiberglass resin and added color to that.
Today they are as bright as day one.
My colors are solid but they also have translucent pigments
that I didn't try.
I can get you the brand name if you are interested.
They also make an "ultra" UV resistant resin for surfboards
but it was too expensive for my project.

John,
Your posting has perfect timing for my SGS project. Given that my 40"
square plain glass window is already in place in a second floor
bathroom, I will be creating the stained glass sundial as a framed
piece to then be screwed in place on the outside of the window. I like
the magnetic attachment of the gnomon idea.
My thinking is akin to the approach you suggest (mosaic pieces first
then poured in grout lines), only in reverse: create the structural
lines to the sundial and art design then put in the "stained glass"
using pourable colored translucent resin. The "grout" lines could be
created by routing a sheet of ΒΌ" outdoor sign board.
So my question to the readers of this list is whether anyone has
experience and recommendations on using any pourable resins and how
the material/colors hold up in the face of weathering/UV exposure?
Larry,
Some years ago I spent weeks designing and making an elaborate
'stained glass' design spread across three windows using self-adhesive
lead came with coloured infills. These could be either films or
pourable glass 'paints' which I was assured were UV proof and sold for
that purpose so that is what I chose.
Fifteen years later very little remains of the colours. Green was the
first to go, then yellow.
I don't mind spending time but I do hate wasting it.
Good luck with your choice,
Tony Moss
