Hello, everybody:

A link to this site ended up in my inbox recently:
http://www.sunmoonscope.com/

It's a simple simulation of the sun/moon rise/set, as it relates to a disk representing the horizon.

Unfortunately, the figure in the center doesn't cast a shadow, but it still might a useful tool for educating folks about major celestial events. You can control the sun and moon by dragging them, and the entire scene can be rotated to any view with the mouse. There are transport controls, although it doesn't look like the speed is adjustable -- the unit of time, is though (hour or day). It's also possible to adjust observer lat/lon, and have the display update in real time. Nice. There are a lot of other useful features that I'll let you discover.

It's sister site, Solar System Scope might also useful for explaining naked eye observation concepts.

Enjoy!
Greg
