Hello All,
When I make a Spectra sundial for a client, the first thing I do is go
to Google Earth to get their coordinates and check the declination of
their home. Usually GE is a very good resource and has all the
information I need, and the nice thing is that I can then export the
new locations and periodically update the Google Earth feature on my
web site so visitors can see where many of the Spectra dials are
located around the world.
However, there are times when the satellite imagery in GE for a given
location is not very current, and newly built subdivision
neighborhoods do not show up. Today that happened on a job, so I went
searching online to try to find more current imagery. I found
something new to me that I thought some of you might be interested in.
Here is another online resource for comparing satellite maps from
different sources, all on one map...you go to your chosen spot and
then you can quickly check and cross reference the images that are
available for that location from a variety of other online sources
like Yahoo Bing etc:

Let me know what you think and how it works for your part of the world
- and if any of you have any other favorite mapping sites which may
have more current imagery than Google Earth does, I'd be interested to
hear about them. Have fun!

For my postcode LU6 2EA it only offers Bing Maps or Yahoo Maps, and the
latter is blank., Very poor. No others. Not even Google Maps, though
it offers Google Ads at the top. Also, the Bing satellite photo is very
poor resolution. All in all, this is absolutely dreadful.
