Hi Roger

Sundial Atlas has many functions and sections, it is growing and it works with
four languages. For these reasons I am looking to get its mmands more
intuitive, without written explanations or at least minimized. Obviously it
isn’t easy and the matter is not simple to describe.
At the beginning of the year I restyled the layout and the graphic of the
website for this purpose and I am planning another action at the beginning of
2012. I have a list of points to do, it includes new developments,
improvements, graphical enhancements and it is divided into sections according
to the urgency or importance of the actions. A section is dedicated to the next
restyle action and it contains all the suggestions and impressions you wrote me.
I thank you for your comments and I am grateful to anyone will help me with
suggestions or criticism.

For this new section of Gnomlab, paper sundials, I give you some info.
In the right column you may click on the orange asterisk close to latitude to
change the coordinates.
Another orange asterisk allows you to select UTC.
As an alternative you may switch to Gnomolab window, with a click on ‘Gnomolab’
in the right column. Here you may pan and zoom the map to find a location or
you can use Geocoder to describe an address asking Google to find it (orange
asterisk beside ‘search for an address). Switching back to ‘paper sundial’
(click the logo in the right column) you will transfer the values setted in
Gnomolab.
In Gnomolab you can set the declination of a wall too. Above the map you’ll
find some blu icons with the values 10, 1 and 0.1; clikking on them you’ll get
revolving the red diameter of the goniometer to evaluate the declination of the
buildings. The declination is transferred to ‘paper sundials’ too but it is
shown only for the models where needed (at the moment only the model n.3).

The model n.3 allows to insert an image, logo or photo. You may use the
available images or upload yours file (jpg or gif, max 2MB).
To upload an image you need to log-in, then click on the camera icon in the
right column and you will get the upload window. With the upload you can choose
if the image is public or personal. It is possible to change some settings
after the upload (only for the files you have uploaded): select the photo then
click on the down orange arrow to read its features, you will also find some
icons to turn, delete or switch from public to personal or opposite.

For every model it is possible to set some features in the left side of the
windows, then with a click on the ‘draw’ button, after few seconds (it depends
on the complexity of your choices) you will get a pdf window with the paper
sundial.

If you need any other info please contact me,

thank you, ciao, Fabio

Thank you Fabio.

I checked the link and found it quite useful but the use is not intuitive but
subtle. A casual observer like me has no idea how to use the page to create a
personal design. Many will click onto the link and then stall. It is not
obvious how to get the program to respond. I found moving the cursor to the
sunburst beside location data worked. There I could input my location. Look for
the pointed finger cursor on the sunbursts. Entry your specific data to
generate a design. Then click on the pdf drawing tab to see the design.
It works like a charm as you said. Thanks for this gift for the members of the
sundial list.

Regards, Roger Bailey

Hi all, news from the clouds.

I’ve a toy for the end of the year.
I don’t think this is the very last end of the year, like some Maya supposed,
and this is a great year, it is better than 2012 :-) (like the same Maya
didn’t know) so I hope you have fun with this new section of Sundial Atlas.

You can reach ‘paper sundial’, a menu of Gnomolab, directly at this address:
www.sundialatlas.eu/atlas.php?gnomolab=3
You will find 4 models, this number is growing and if you have other models to
propose, I’ll be happy to develop them in Gnomolab.

The models may be setted for any coordinates and other features, you will get a
pdf as replay.
The 3rd model is designed to be applied to glass windows (you may found the
declination of the windows with Gnomolab). It has a small gnomonic hole you can
do with a pin or a small nail, moreover this model may be customed with a photo
(or a logo). I uploaded some sample photos but anyone may upload other photos
(public or for personal use).

Have fun, ciao, Fabio
