Barry, I enjoyed your presentation on "Fuji Diamond" photographs at the NASS conference in Portland. Since then I have been looking for the opportunity to capture the diamond effect of the sun rising over a mountain top. Recently I enjoyed a similar phenomenon with the moon rising between the peaks of Atalaia Point, Madeira.
The remnant of an ancient volcano provided the gnomon for this temporary moondial, showing the rising moon as a "Madeira Pearl" Perhaps this is one reason Madeira is known as the "Pearl of the Atlantic". Solstice Greetings, Roger Bailey
