dear Darek

I haven't a software for your purpose but I use a 3D software to get movie from a 3D drawing. Usually I draw the sundial, then I set the position of the Sun, altitude and azimuth, every 2 minutes for the latitude and the date (usually for equinox and the 2 solstices). In this way the software builts a series of rendering and packs them in a movie. Obviously I can get the movie, or single frames, from any point of view or any lightining. The time to get the rendering may be very long (I remember a movie got in 4 days, uninterrupted), it depends by the number of frames and their size, but it is a PC to work, not me :-) You can see one of these movies on youtube (it is a low resolution example): http://youtu.be/FbQXLjOLg9o

If you think I may help you with this solution, please send me other details.

ciao Fabio

Subject: Re: 2 questions: declination & animation

Thank you all for your kind answers, tips and patience - those were very helpful and I found the data I was looking for. However the other question remains unanswered and I would very much like to help my freinds.

So the second one again:

2. A friend of mine is helping a student in an attampt to reconstruct an old missing dial. They need a software which allows to make an animation of a shadow's path over the dial. Is there anything that would help them?
