La sua analisi di questi strumenti fu fondamentale per capire come e in che modo questo sistema orario fu introdotto da Oronzio Fineo nel XVI. Fer era estremamente interessato a questo argomento e sempre pronto ad aiutarmi nello studio di nuovi manoscritti, libro e strumenti che riuscivo a trovare. Un uomo dalla cordialità sorprendente che univa all'amicizia sincera, la rigorosità del suo pensiero scientifico, razionale rivolto alla scoperta del funzionamento di questi antichi strumenti.
