Hello,
"Horologium Avenionensi Astronomico Catoptricum" is written on the drawing. And
in the dedication we reading: "Est in Collegio nostro Avenionensi
turris...(...)...huis turris interiorumque eius parietum situm, ad intentum
specimen exhibendum sanè aptissimum...". This drawing was the project for a
catoptricum sundial in the tower of the Avenion Palace of the JHS societates
sede.It is not true that most of the Kircher's drawing in the gnomonic and
scientific books was not realized. Most of its was in the Kircherian Museum and
lost or missed until now.Happy Easter!Nicola

Ogg: A drawing by Hevelius

Hello everyone

I am sure most of you
on this list are familiar with the work Primitiae gnomonicae catoptricae
by Athanasius Kircher. Its frontispiece depicts a reflective sundial
drawn (designed) by Johannes Hevelius. If you havent seen it here you
can view it:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Primitiae_gnomonicae_catoptricae,_by_Kitcher._Wellcome_L0006089.jpg

I
was wondering whether this drawing was just an exercise (book
illustration) or parhaps an actual dial was created based on the disign.
Does anyone know? I would appreciate any info on this.
