At the urgings of my son (and some rather nasty comments about getting into
the 20th century), I have invested in a new Samsung Galaxy S9 mobile phone.
I have looked through the Play Store for an app for star identification.
There are several available, and all have variable reviews (ranging from
"the best thing since sliced bread" to "unusable" for the same app).
The trigger for this request comes after a month of field work in South
Australia and Western Australia, with fine clear weather almost the entire
time, so I spent most nights camping (without a tent) under crystal clear
skies, well away from any light pollution. Pure magic. I can recognise the
easy constellations and stars, even the odd planet when I see its position
vary over a few nights. But there's many many more that escape me.
Any suggestions about a good app would be appreciated.
