Dear All,The brick masonry wall of the 11th century bell tower of the
Transfiguration Cathedral in Chernihiv is said to have functioned as a sundial
according to a local researcher.Chernihiv the Ukrainian hero city - currently
bravely defending against agressors, who encircled it.In Poland right now we
are doing our best to manage the wave of refugees from Ukraine. Already 1,6 mln
people crossed the border since 24th February.I just came from a Wroclaw train
station where there is a local logistic hub - some people arrive from Ukraine
with few plastic bags only. Women, children, elderly; some with their
pets. Please support refugees with help of local charity organisations in
Your countries. You may also directly support Ukraine citizens with use of the
website of National Bank of Ukraine.Bank accept safe payments with debit/
credit cards:https://bank.gov.ua/en/If You have access to medical first aid
products, below is a list of products which are in urgent need in Ukraine -
both for civilians and self defence. This is a list that Polish Association of
Architects recently received from our counterpart Ukrainian organisation in
Lviv:- hemostatic QuikClot Combat Gauze (or similar)- painkillers in
syringes,- pneumothorax decompression needles,- Kramer wire ladder splints,To
deliver it to Ukraine You may contact local charities or alternatively
send it to me in Wroclaw, Poland - I will arrange delivery to the PL-UA
border. Please contact me at private email for details.Regards,Maciej

Dialling Friends,The lead article in the March BSS Bulletin is
entitled “Jerry Ossolinski’s pocket sundial from the Lviv Historical
Museum. Creating a replica and its use”Unfortunately, the sundial and all the
other exhibits from the museum have in the past few days been packed up to be
safe from Putin’s marauding hoards. The article author, Dr Vsevolod
Buravchenko, is by profession an assistant professor at the Kyiv National
University of Construction and Architecture but is also the founder of the
project to study and recreate historical scientific instruments which is called
‘Master Terebrus’ (terebrus.WordPress.com). However, yesterday he was digging
anti-tank trenches to protect Kyiv and today he was filling 50kg sandbags for
the same purpose. It is apparent that even the gentle world of sundials is not
safe from the madman in Moscow. What more can I say? Please give your support
to the people of Ukraine.John ———————-Dr J DavisFlowton
