Since this started with a question about scroll wheel mice this would be a good time to mention that the SRSS 3.1 firmware will have a new wheel-detection strategy that is different from the ones in 2.0 and 3.0. It's based on what we learned from 2.0 and 3.0 and it's supposed to be able to handle just about any wheel mouse without requiring special-case treatment based on coded-in vendor/model IDs. If you care about scroll-wheel mice then it'd be a good idea to try the 3.1 beta when it comes out so that you can let us know whether the new algorithm works or fails for your mice.
