Sun Ray 150s are fixed-resolution devices. There's no way to change a 150's on-screen timing, it's fixed at [EMAIL PROTECTED] because that's the natural resolution of the LCD panel in the 150. (Internally the panel does have some rudimentary pixel resampling logic intended to adapt other monitor signal timings to the 150's 1024x768 on-screen resolution but the results are horrible so the 150 firmware disallows resolutions other than the natural one.) > I've seen reference to "utxconfig" and "utresadm" in past > postings and have tried both. utxconfig segfaults and utresadm sets the > right resolution, but it doesn't fix the problem. I set it as the > default for all SunRays (I only have two and they're both 150s). When used against a 150 the only effect these commands will have is on the dimensions of the X desktop. They can have no effect on the on-screen resolution. If the dimensions of the desktop don't match the on-screen resolution then you'll end up with either a small desktop shown in the top left of the 150's screen (that's if the desktop's dimensions are smaller than 1024x768) or with a "panning" behaviour that shows you a 1024x768 region of the desktop that moves with the mouse. > (I don't have access to the server now so the path might be > wrong) /var/opt/SUN<tab>/dispinfo and /var/opt/SUN<tab>/displays show > that the SunRay is requesting [EMAIL PROTECTED], which is what I want to give > it. That's as expected; a 150 will always report [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Anything wrong with that? I've also tries [EMAIL PROTECTED] assuming that > it would support such a low res/timing. It'll only do 1024x768 on-screen, nothing bigger, nothing smaller. > In reality it's getting 1280x1024, which means the display scrolls on > the screen, and this is not ideal. If you're getting a 1280x1024 desktop instead of one that conforms to the on-screen resolution at the time the Xserver was started then that has to be the result of an override established by 'utxconfig' or 'utresadm'. In this case it's probably 'utxconfig' because a 'utresadm' override would have had the side effect of modifying the timing logged in the "dispinfo" file. What do 'utxconfig -o and 'utresadm -o' say? One thing to bear in mind as you're experimenting with these commands is that 'utxconfig' only becomes effective the next time you start a new Xserver so whenever you make a change to 'utxconfig' settings you have to log out in order to see the result of the new setting. 'utresadm' changes only becomes effective when the Sun Ray creates a whole new association with the server, typically after a 'utrestart -c'. There's an RFE open to have 'utresadm' changes become effective after a logout but it's not implemented yet. The segfault is bad. Do you have a core file from that? Do any messages show up in /var/opt/SUNWut/log/admin_log when that happens? However, it shouldn't be causing a desktop size mismatch. Incidentally, one legitimate way to end up with a 1280x1024 desktop on a 150 is to start your Xserver on a Sun Ray that is driving a 1280x1024 timing and then hotdesk that desktop onto a 150. Once the Xserver has started there's no way to resize its drawing surface (not today, the Sun Ray Xserver doesn't support the Resize And Rotate X extension yet) so the desktop remains at 1280x1024 and the usual Sun Ray approach of forcing the monitor resolution to match the dimensions of the desktop doesn't work on a fixed resolution device like a 150. But you say all of your Sun Rays are 150s so this can't be the cause in this case. OttoM. __ ottomeister Disclaimer: These are my opinions.
