I believe there is a bug in the 170 firmware that doesn't allow it to
leave its native resolution. That should change with the next patch or
version of the Sun Ray Server Software, or so I've been told.

I haven't actually worked with multihead configurations but all of the
information in the docs seems to suggest that all Sun Ray devices will
match the resolution of the primary DTU. Which is what you are seeing.

To avoid panning, all the monitors in a workgroup must
support the same resolution.
The auto-size feature sets the user's X server display
dimensions automatically to match the preferred resolution
supported by the primary DTU when the session is created. This
resolution will be the optimum resolution for the multihead
group. This feature can be turned off and on using the utxconfig
command. The default geometry, which is the number of rows and
columns in the multihead group, and the screen order are also
automatically set when a session is created. This feature can be
turned off and on using the utxconfig command."
I would turn off the auto-size feature using utxconfig. Then force the
primary unit into the desired resolution (1024x768) and the others
should follow.
