The extra overhead is tiny.  Using broadcast means that everyone on
the subnet will see an extra packet from each Sun Ray server host
about once every 20 seconds.  The main downside is that if the hosts
have other interfaces that aren't on a common subnet (they're 
separated by at least one router) then they won't be able to verify 
connectivity between those interfaces and they won't be able to
maintain contact if their common subnet (your core switch in this 
case) goes down.  It's usually not worth worrying about, if you lose
a core switch then you'll have far bigger problems to deal with than
the possibility of some misconnected Sun Ray sessions.
