Hello list,
Has anyone had any luck running SRSS 3.1alpha/beta on common x86
hardware? I'd like to move my SRSS installation off an Ultra 2 onto
something a bit speedier. I gave it a shot on whatever spare boxes I
had available, first an Athlon 750 with an Asus K7V motherboard, and
then a machine with the very first EPIA Mini-ITX motherboard. On the
Athlon and with the GA release of Solaris 10, SRSS 3.1 beta worked
like a charm. However, the same bits on the Mini-ITX left the DTUs
resetting after flashing 26B in an endless loop.
/var/opt/SUNWut/log/messages showed that all was well, but
/var/dt/Xerrors showed that Xsun keeps on dying over and over:
XIO: fatal IO error 146 (Connection refused) on X server ":2.0"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
XIO: fatal IO error 146 (Connection refused) on X server ":2.0"
after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
... (ad nauseum)
Supposedly Xsun doesn't care about the video hardware in the machine
running SunRay Server, but I can't think of any other reasons that
this setup wouldn't work. Apart from this, the ITX runs Solaris
quite happily.
I grabbed DTrace and put Sun's app_crash script to work. I'd
appreciate it if anyone could tell me if they can make anything out
of app_crash's output:
