I am trying to get sound working on my Suse 9.3 but the sound
does not work. I am installing this on a V20z which does not seem
to have a speaker, however, I want to use the speakers on the SunRays.

I used the patch provided on the debian page. However, when I try to
load the utadem module I get the following error messages:

Aug 22 13:52:22 skinny kernel: utadem: unsupported module, tainting kernel.
Aug 22 13:52:22 skinny kernel: utadem: Unknown symbol unregister_sound_mixer,
st_info == 0x1

Aug 22 13:52:22 skinny kernel: load_module: err 0xfffffffe (dont worry)

Any ideas?

Assuming you already know that you're well into "unsupported" territory,
you might want to check that you have the "soundcore" module loaded
first? I think that's where those symbols would be...
