Interesting setup, running your own Ray server...

In that case your cheapest alternative is probably a couple of used Cisco
Pix 501s or similar stuff from other vendors to create a Lan-to-Lan IPSec
tunnel to your friend's house. They also work as a DHCP server for the
Ray.

Cheaper still would be a pair of 800 or 1600-series routers, provided you
have some means of legally getting an IOS license for the 3DES feature set
for IPSec. Those boxes can be had on that auction site for a reasonable
amount of scarcity tokens...
