I suggest that you enable the alternate break sequence by editing
/etc/default/kbd and setting:

KEYBOARD_ABORT=alternate

This will mean that sending break (or power cycling) won't send a
server to the OK prompt.  If you need to you can still get to the OK
prompt by using the sequence:

Ctrl-M ~ Ctrl-B
