It's part of the Solaris Enterprise System. You can still "buy" it if you want, most enterprises will buy in order to get support.

Right now we haven't made the pay for patch thing happen yet (probably the next version of Sun Ray Server), and it's unclear if there are security fixes whether or not we provide them for free (like we do with Solaris 10).

Last night navigating Sun's site, I could only find SRS 3.1 with the $99
License fee. Later via Google, I found the reference, on Sun's site, saying
it's free. Sun's business practices have always confused me somewhat.

That is correct... you would have to either buy licenses and support, or wait for the new release (with the patch) to get released.

Craig,

I read in another blog that if you need a patch then that is classed as support and you would need to pay. Do you know if that is correct

Actually Mark is correct the software is now free and you are free to use. If you want support, you'll have to buy both an RTU (perpetual) and a yearly support contract. No different than today, the only difference is that if you don't want support, you can actually run SRSS with out paying a dime to Sun, and still be legal.

the software is not free, but the download is.

You can find it under the software downloads section. I just grabbed a copy last weekend.

Am I loosing my mind? A couple of months ago I saw the Sun Ray Server software available on the Sun web page under a Coming Soon / Open or Free license link. Now all I see is the $99. single user license and up... Did anyone else see
the Sun Ray Server software for free?

Thanks, Mark
