Running 'X -indirect <sun_ray_server>' does pretty much the same thing, i.e. 
the screen just keeps flashing on and off. The following gets logged in 
/var/dt/Xerrors:

fbconsole: ioctl SRIOCSREDIR: Invalid argument

What's all that about?
