I think this discussion is too black-and-white.

Let's look at the (theoretical) numbers:

USB 2.0 480 Mbps
Sun Ray 100 Mbps
USB 1.1 1.5/12 Mbps

So while it's true that Sun Ray can't achieve the full USB 2.0
rate, 100 Mbps is a heck of a lot better than USB 1.1's measly
12 Mbps.

So it's really incorrect to say:

The only way USB 2.0 would be a benefit on a Sun Ray would be to employ a 1
Gbps NIC.

Of course scalability within the network infrastructure should
also be a concern, because if every Sun Ray *could* consume
100 Mbps of USB traffic, you'd need some pretty hefty switches
in the infrastructure.

The is all pretty theoretical and moot anyway. Sun Ray isn't
really a good fit for a high-speed I/O device. If you really need
2.0 USB speeds, Sun Ray is not your answer. You're better
off with some kind of "docking station" on the network for
these devices, that many users can share if necessary.

Sunray. The best way to accomplish USB 2.0 for Sun Ray would be to go with a
USB over IP on a Gig backbone, or use Media stations.

Why is that by the way?

Just curious since you'd never be able to write @ USB 2.0 speeds over the network anyhow. Even on a PC things like drive mapping to Citrix or RDP typically on write in the sub 100 Kbps range.

Do you have (or know of any) USB 2.0 only devices (which according to the USB spec would be illegal since they should all be backwards compatible).

Yeah - I just wish the "smaller" version was USB2.0

Much nicer looking than the 1g's. We have found the stands break a lot on the 1g when people push the device back in. This looks like an integrated stand. And USB port on the front will be nice as well.
