I assume you're referring to the different 'gdmdynamic -l' output? I found it necessary to modify the 'reset-dpy' script where this call is made. I still have problems when starting/stopping GDM (Sun Rays stay hung at 26D), but it works for the most part.
I've compiled the Ubuntu GDM package under Debian and provide modified xmgr scripts. The scripts should be useful for anyone wanting to use the community GDM. They can be found at:
