Actually, I'm doing it too! (United States)

Ivar: "Same thing we do every night, Jerry... try to TAKE OVER THE WORLD!"

Sun tries to partner with ISP's?
I am afraid the big ISP's will not make it happen for Sun.
Remember the ISPs? How did it start?
The telephone companies where well possitioned to deliver internet
connectivity, e-mail, web presence.
But they didn't.
Who delivered internet access first?
Small startup companies!
In The Netherlands they were called XS4ALL, Planet Internet, and some
students who left university to start there own company.
Then you get the shake out. Only the bigger ones survive, since they
can lower the price.
Then in the final stages the Teleco's arrive at the scene. They buy
the survivors like XS4ALL and Planet Internet.
So the Telephone companies now own the ISP's.
Do you really think they are going to invest in something new now if
the can buy the survivors in say 5 to 7 years?
I don't think so.
So what is really happening:
We see small Application Service providers starting to arrive at the
scene.
They are used to work with MS Windows. HP and Microsoft are pushing
this market with "easy to manage" application and exchange hosting
products. The ASP market is starting to grow on HP and Microsoft
producs in combination with pc, IGEL or WYSE. Sun is nowhere to be seen.
These small companies will grow.
There will again be a shake out and then the ISP = big telephone
companies will arive and buy up the survivors.
What can Sun do?
I think Sun should provide services to small ASP companies now.
That way it will be well positioned to provide already existing Sunray
infrastructure services to the big telco's in the future.
I must say that I am a bit biased.
I am part of a small company, raywyse, who is delivering a Sunray
service at a fixed price per month over the Internet in The
Netherlands. As far as I know we are the only company doing this in
the world.
Please correct me if I am wrong
And I must say, I really would appreciate some extra help from Sun...

Because this is not our direct business. Our
strategy is to enable partners to succeed in this
sort of space. I suppose I'm not talking out of
school if I say that various ISPs have looked into
this, and perhaps still are. They are the ones
positioned to offer this service.
