Yes, actually. :-) I always use smart cards because I often go back and forth between my office and my lab.

If he's using NSCM then it's a no-brainer, just plug in a new Sun
Ray and authenticate into the old session.  So I take it he's not
using NSCM.

  I'm pretty sure he doesn't have NSCM running.

By far the easiest and safest way to gain access to the old session
would be to use x11vnc, <http://www.karlrunge.com/x11vnc/>.
