One thing to keep in mind: I am running the Sun Rays over the WAN... so
bandwidth is limited. Latency is good for the WAN, but still slower

What OSD icons, if any, appear on the Sun Ray when the disconnect
happens? What messages showup in /var/opt/SUNWut/log/messages
when the connection is lost?

What kind of bandwidth do you have across the WAN to the Sun Ray?
The Sun Ray protocol should adjust to the available bandwidth so it
shouldn't get to the point where screen updates eat so much of the
network that keepalives between the Sun Ray and the Auth Manager
daemon get squeezed out, but maybe there's a bug in the bandwidth
adaptation.

Does 'utcapture' show packet loss or huge latency when this activity
is going on? Even better (since utcapture relies on data that is
piggybacked onto the Auth keepalives) can you get a network packet
capture of the traffic between the server and the Sun Ray when this
activity is happening?

Are any of the neighbouring Sun Rays affected, or is it just the one
that is showing the intensive counter update?
