I think, I finally found the reason for our problems on two SunRay
servers: misconfiguration.
On one server the link "/etc/X11/XF86Config -> XF86Config-4" was
missing, on the other server, the link existed however, the
configuration file XF86Config-4 was missing. After changing this,
SunRays are working normally after installation of the
libfreetype6-patch (DSA-1095 freetype).
What I do not understand is why this wasn't a problem with
libfreetype6-2.1.7-2.4.
My apologies to make a fuss.

Fo what its worth, i am using freetype 2.2.1-2 with xorg 7 on a debian
based sun ray server and its fine.
Are console logins on the server crashing as well or is it only the
sun rays?
Its been a bit of a battle to get a happy xorg server with fonts etc
maybe your problems lie there. Have you looked at your xorg logs maybe
even your gdm/xdm logs?

So with libfreetype6-2.1.7-2.4 SRSS is OK, and with 2.1.7-2.5 it's
broken?
If you're getting logged out then it sounds as though the Sun Ray
X server (Xnewt) is crashing. Xnewt is based on the Xorg server,
and the Xorg server has some dependencies on parts of libfreetype6
that it really shouldn't be depending on. Maybe the new build of
libfreetype6 is not binary-compatible with the old one, although
from a quick look at the Debian patch source I don't see any changes
that would obviously break compatibility.
Are X server core files being generated? Can you get a stack
trace from the core files?
If the server has a console then does an X server running on the
console crash in the same way?
I've seen no other reports of crashes after installing a libfreetype6
patch, but this patch is fairly new so perhaps other people just
haven't got around to installing it yet. Or maybe the patches for
other distros don't produce this problem.
