I think you've uncovered a bug in SRSS, although
it would need some discussion.
There's an RFE already open, with some discussion in it.
SRSS doesn't update
/etc/dt/config/{Xstartup,Xsetup,Xreset}, and it
probably should so that you can make a copy and
apply customizations yourself.
The most SRSS should do is to warn you that your locally
customised copy might need to be tweaked.
The single biggest thing that SRSS could do to make this
less accident-prone would be to not paste a screed of
commands directly into the /usr/dt files, but instead paste
in a single command that executes or sources a separate
program or script. Changes can then be made to that script
without worrying about whether and how to continually re-edit
the /usr/dt and /etc/dt files.
What you should do is to go ahead and make this
copy
No, please, no. Don't make a copy, it's just asking for
trouble. Instead create an /etc/dt file that *sources* the
one from /usr/dt and then add stuff to do whatever else
you need need to do around that. The only time you
should need to start by making a copy of the /usr/dt
file is if you need to modify what gets done by the content
of that file.
Offhand I don't know what's available in the environment
of the Xstartup script. I'm pretty sure the username is
available, I don't know whether the environment from
Xconfig (including SUN_SUNRAY_TOKEN) is available.
If I have time later today I'll experiment with it.
