-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA256 I use devilspie (http://www.burtonini.com/blog/computers/devilspie) for this. I start it at login and have a configuration file which defines which windows should appear on which pane. I use it mainly to put FrameMaker and Firefox/ Thunderbird into the pane they are supposed to be when I log in and the session is initialized. I also use it to make xmms be mapped on all panes. It has an xml configuration file where one can define actions for certain windows.
devilspie is a bit tricky to compile and the newer versions need the latest gnome libraries. I think I got devilspie-0.10 to compile under Solaris-10 and it works well for me.
