If I'm right, you might be able to take/build a top-of-branch copy of gdm to fix this issue. But usually when I try to update a single component on Linux I get lost in a twisty maze of library dependencies, all different (or, worse yet, pick up the new version of Pango libraries that don't work with Sun Ray - I lost a working version of grip this way recently by updating everything from blastwave :-().
