If nothing is configured in the data stores, I usually do the
following (given a single server):
(all in /opt/SUNWut/sbin)
utconfig -u
One actually no need to do this step since utinstall -u
takes care of removing whole configuration by calling
utadm -r, utreplica -u & utconfig -u if required.
However I don't remember whether SRSS2.0 utinstall -u
does that ? I am sure it does from SRSS3.0 onwards.
Thanks

utinstall -u
Reboot
install SRSS 3.1
reboot
patch SRSS (Guessing sparc since you said 2.0)
http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/pdownload.pl?target=120879-04&method=h
utconfig
Decide on a method for provisioning Sun Rays in the link I sent you
before.
Now that being said, I'm 99.9% sure you can just install 3.1 right
over the top 2.0

It seems we have Sunray 2.0. To install 3.1, do I ./utconfig -u first?

Running where? If you want to know what's on the server, you
can use pkginfo -x SUNWuta for instance. If you want to know what's on
a particular Sun Ray and you know it's IP, you can use utquery -d <IP>.
Or you can run utfwload -a to see all Sun Rays connected to
this server currently and what firmware they are running.

Do you just have one server?
Install the lastest SRSS Patch for your specific version. There is
a readme file that has detailed instructions for updating the
firmware correctly across all members of a fog.
Typically however if it's one server (or you like to just get it
over with) and you have a private interconnect all you have to do is
run
/opt/SUNWut/sbin/utfwadm -a -A -n all
The sun rays will get the new firmware the next time the cycle.
From then If you do the dns or option 66 with parms files (which I
like the most), all you have to do is /opt/SUNWut/sbin/utfwadm -a -A
-v since your Sun Ray server will most likely just be configured
with utadm -L on instead of doing any thing like shared or private
interconnects. Makes life a lot easier.

Sorry for the dumb questions but I am total noob when it comes to
sunray
but
am keen to learn. To download the latest fw to clients do I just
run all
the
relevant patches on the server and then have the clients connect
and the
./utfwsync?

Perfectly fine. Are you all up to date on your firmware levels?
If not, take advantage of your private interconnect to make sure
that you are running the latest FW.
Remember when you're done to delete the private interconnect as
well via utadm -d interface

So it is ok for me to put the sunrays on the same switch as the
windows
pcs
and then issue utadm -A subnet? Thanks for the information.

Why don't you just let windows provide DHCP to the whole network.
utadm -A subnet will configure solaris DHCP to just give out Sun
Ray specific information. Or check out using the new options such
as option
66, dns client, and parms files.

Hi guys. We have a Sunray network and currently it is segmented on a
different switch to avoid problems with the windows network we have.
Our
switches do not support vlan's. Is there a way I can have the Sunray
network
on the same physical switch and have the sunraqy server only hand
out
dhcp
addreswses to sunray devices (MAC address) without affecting the
windows
network? Ie the windows clients would still receive their ip from
the
windows dhcp server? Are there any down sides to doing this if it
is at
all
possible?
