I believe SRSS is still available for free unlimited use.  But yes, Sun has
done a "take back" on SGD for some reason.  After a big announcement that
both SRSS and SGD where going to be open sourced, Sun quietly reversed
direction on SGD.  Christopher Saul, Sun Desktop Sales Manager, promised us
an explanation 3 weeks ago on the SGD Users mailing list
(http://www.filibeto.org/mailman/listinfo/sgd-users) but no word yet.

Someone also pointed out that a ThinkThin blog talking about the subject has
also been deleted.
