Dear admins, we are able to buy new ray servers for our 60 stations. I am wondering which machine will perform best and hope you will give me some hints:
The choice is between: - 2 x Sun Fire T2000, 8 Core (1GHz), 8GB RAM, 2 disks - 2 x Sun Fire V240, 2 x 1.5Ghz, 8GB, 2 disks - 2 x Sun Fire V440, 2 x 1.6Ghz, 4GB, 2 disks Typical scenario is 35 stations running as kiosks with Firefox. The other 15 stations are fo "normal" logins, running KDE. So each server would have about 300-400 running processes without heavy number crunching. I would prefer the T2000 as I think the multi-core architecture would serve the lot of processes better, but I did not find any hints if I am right. Anybody out there who did some performance tests? -- Regards Christoph ________________________________________________________________________ Christoph Litauer [EMAIL PROTECTED] Uni Koblenz, Computing Center, http://www.uni-koblenz.de/~litauer Postfach 201602, 56016 Koblenz Fon: +49 261 287-1311, Fax: -100 1311 PGP-Fingerprint: F39C E314 2650 650D 8092 9514 3A56 FBD8 79E3 27B2 _______________________________________________ SunRay-Users mailing list [email protected] http://www.filibeto.org/mailman/listinfo/sunray-users
