try is to run startxfce script with

xfce is compiled with linux sound devices so you need to workaround the start of xfcepanel

thanks for your reply
there is no startxfce script, but instead /opt/csw/etc/xdg/xfce4/xinitrc
I added
unset UTAUDIODEV
unset AUDIODEV
in this xinitrc file, but UTAUDIODEV and AUDIODEV are set anyway
these processes are running:
ultra20-root% ps -fu gerard | grep xfce
gerard 4123 4114 0 12:09:39 pts/13 0:00 /bin/ksh /etc/dt/config/Xsession2.CSWxfce gerard 4125 4123 0 12:09:39 pts/13 0:00 /opt/csw/bin/xfce4-session
  gerard 4128 1 0 12:09:40 ? 0:00 xfce-mcs-manager
  gerard 4142 1 0 12:09:41 pts/13 0:00 xfce4-panel

so xfce4-panel is running, but doesn't appear on sunray session!
