We currently have a problem getting the SUN compose-key correctly
working on JDS and KDE (3.5.4) in our Sun Ray environment. If I want to
create a german a-umlaut (ä), I press "compose-<bracket(")>-a". On CDE
it creates correctly a ä . But on JDS and KDE it creates "ä
. Does somebody know how the compose key is implemented by sun and what
I can do to get it working on KDE and JDS?
Compose sequences are handled by "Input Method" logic. This logic
can live in the application, or in the widgets used by the application,
or in an external daemon, or some combination of those. I've lost track
of how Gnome (JDS) implements its Input Method and I have no idea
about KDE.
Your best bet for finding out how to make this work in JDS is to ask in
the discussion sections of the "Desktop"
<http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/desktop/> or "I18n and
L10n" <http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/int_localization/>
areas on opensolaris.org.
There's a KDE community page in the Desktop area at
<http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/desktop/communities/kde/>,
they might be able to help with KDE.
