If it looks so good, by all means go for it, and report back.
It is not for sale yet...planned in September ;-)
It's
unclear to me how it's any different from Wyse or Neoware.
Well the "no cpu, no software, no OS on the client" claim is a lot like
the Sun Ray and a lot different from a Windows ce wyse terminal with a
rdp client.
I suppose the
difference could be that it might not be RDP-based (and is proprietary
instead), and requires running a virtual windows instance per user.
Do you see this as an advantage or disadvantage?
Having ALP for the Sun Rays makes it possible to add features to the Sun
Ray which are not available in RDP.
In the early days the Sun Ray could excel in sound up/downstream, color
depth, etc. just because rdp did not support this at that time and rdp
still has audio/video synchronization problems.
If I look at the Pano Logic founders and who they are hiring it looks
like good video support is high on their agenda.
Having their own protocol would make it possible to deliver on this.
Also rdp does not support usb very well.
The ability to communicate with Windows through the virtual hardware
layer and reroute it through your own protocol creates new possibilities
to support Windows usb devices.
I
don't see any mention of smartcard, so forget Sun Ray-like hot-desking.
No, thats true.
It is still an advantage of the Sun Ray but will this be hard to implement?
I think the Sun Ray has a good track record which Pano can not match in
some years to come.
But I also think it is an interesting and inspiring development
