Hi, Host/cluster is meant for ESX 3.x. It will not appear under VMware Server. I take it since you are running VMware, your VM/virtual desktop will be WinXP Pro? If you are, you won't need dtsession/Java desktop. And you strip down Solaris 10 or whatever OS you are going to be running SRSS. And I suggest you look at nLite to strip down the WinXP OS before installation to save on memory overheads, disk space and improve security.
Are you planning to do a 1-user-to-1-VM or 1-VM-shared-by-many-users? 1-user-to-1-VM is similar to a physical desktop concept. The user will be assigned his/her personal virtual desktop (WinXP Pro). This concept will require more storage space. This is a very straight forward method to implement since you don't really need a connection broker to assign the VM to the user. SRSS can do that since the VM are static, and you can map the user's card token ID to the VM's hostname. 1-VM-shared-by-many-users concept requires user's data to be stored separately on a File & Print server. And since the VM is shared, the user can not change the look & feel of the desktop. Once the user is not using that desktop, it will be returned to the pool so that the next user can pick it up. And I think this is where a connection broker will come in handy. Hope this helps. I'm running SRSS 3.1 on Solaris 10 x86, and VMware ESX 3.0.1. My 3 Solaris servers are running on the ESX as virtual machines.
